The word dialectical means holding two seemingly opposite truths at the exact same time. In DBT, those two truths are Acceptance and Change. For our community, that looks like this: I accept exactly who I am in this moment, masks and all... AND I am actively learning the skills to change the behaviors that no longer serve me. Your mask was likely built as a survival mechanism to protect you from pain, judgment, or trauma. DBT doesn't judge you for wearing it.
